Salary: $50-$55/hour

Summary

The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is the not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, the City of New York.  BNYDC constantly strives to provide an environment in which businesses and careers can take root and grow.

We are seeking two Engineers/HVAC Technicians to operate, perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair building mechanical and HVAC systems throughout the facility. This person should have a working understanding of building mechanical systems such as chillers, cooling towers, water & air-cooled systems, package units, split systems, ductless systems, heat pumps, controls, BAS, and fire life safety systems.

Areas of Responsibility
  • Operating, maintaining, & repairing all HVAC systems and associated equipment
  • Perform routine inspections of all HVAC and fire systems
  • Maintain compliance with City, County and State ordinances and codes
  • In coordination with Chief Engineer, prepare operational procedures to ensure code compliance of mechanical systems, FDNY logs, and annual maintenance inspections
  • Ensure that operations are in compliance with safety procedures, client safety requirements, company policy and procedures, as well as applicable regulations and industry standards.  This includes preparing pre-job safety analysis, job hazards analysis, and invoking Stop Work Authority when warranted; prepares reports on work performed.
  • Manage work orders through workflow applications
  • Test, inspect, and troubleshoot equipment installation
  • Monitor contractor performance and work closely with outside vendors and contractors to ensure work is completed according to specifications
  • Keeps abreast of new technologies and efficiency protocols for building operations
  • Performs related work and other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to multi-task effectively and manage multiple deadlines
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, specifically Excel and Word
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships stakeholders
  • Ability to look for new ways to improve internal processes and workflow
  • Proficient with BMS systems
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Obtain additional FDNY Certificate of Fitness as required
  • Must be able to work overtime on request and support after hours building needs and emergencies
Qualifications
  • HS Diploma/GED
  • 3+ years of experience as a HVAC technician/apprentice/engineer or similar engineering role (operating, stationary, etc.)
  • Package unit experience
  • Certification of Refrigeration required for Engineer position (Q01 Certification)
  • EPA Universal Technician Certification
  • OSHA 10-Hour
  • DMV issued drivers license

Preferred:

  • Sprinkler S-12 Certificate of Fitness (FDNY)
  • Standpipe S-13 Certificate of Fitness (FDNY)
  • F89 Certified (FLSD) Fire Safety Director
  • OSHA 30-hour and/or OSHA 511 Course
  • Category 7G Cooling Tower Water Treatment License (DEC)
