Job Title: Custodial Services Supervisor

Salary: $38-$40/hour
Summary
The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is a not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, the City of New York. The Supervisor is responsible for managing a team of frontline custodial staff. The Custodial Services team maintains the cleanliness and appearance of BNY facilities, creating a safe, welcoming, and hygienic environment. This role is critical in fostering a motivated and productive team and ensuring all staff complete tasks efficiently.
Areas of Responsibility
- Manage team of ~9 laborers, mentoring and providing staff with training and professional development opportunities
- Support the Custodial Services Manager with administrative tasks & facility initiatives
- Delegate tasks & monitor productivity, issue janitorial supplies and equipment
- Create staff & logistic schedules schedules, maintain timekeeping and personnel records
- Resolve employee and tenant complaints, concerns, and conflicts
- Conduct daily building walk-throughs and complete facility inspection reports
- Conduct daily checks of maintenance closets and equipment for safety and cleanliness
- Coordinate & support Yard-wide special events (upwards of 250 per year), including event set-up and break-down
- Capable of lifting & moving furniture, machinery, and other heavy equipment (upwards of 8,000 pieces moved per year)
- Ability to be flexible and provide hands-on support in urgent situations. i.e., weather-related conditions, leaks, outages
- Ensure the general safety of daily operations and give immediate attention to potential hazards
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated people leadership skills. Effective at managing & developing a team
- Ability to read and decipher floor plans, understanding various layouts (conference, theater, cocktail, etc)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Excellent oral and written communications skills. Must be able to effectively respond to the needs of employees, tenants, and visitors
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong asset management skills
- Ability to maintain a positive, productive atmosphere in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- High degree of initiative, self-motivation and ability to motivate others
- Ability to develop and implement effective staff training procedures
- Must be able to lift / move 50+ pounds
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 4+ years of facility management/janitorial experience
- 2+ years of supervisory experience, preferably in a Unionized environment
- Ability to work evenings/weekends
- Equipment repair and maintenance knowledge preferred
