Areas of Responsibility

  • Interprets specifications, blueprints or other instructions to supervisors; supervises and evaluates subordinates performance; enforces company policies and safety regulations
  • Performs routine and periodic inspections of systems, buildings, etc. to determine conditions
  • Evaluates and recommends best applications of methods to correct problems, deficiencies, breakdowns, malfunctions, etc. Establishes and adjusts work procedures to meet completion schedules. Is required to be adept in the activities of the workers supervised. And possess knowledge of the activities involved
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet schedules, analyzes and resolves work problems or assists supervisors in solving work problems
  • Prepares requisitions for materials and contractors
  • Supervises elevator and sprinkler system maintenance contracts
  • Recommends personnel actions, such as promotions, and disciplinary measures
  • Confers with other Department heads to coordinate activities of various departments
  • Performs other duties important to the maintenance of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, as directed

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have  working knowledge of computers that includes Outlook, Excel, and Word


  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Mechanical Engineering degree preferred
  • At least 10 years’ experience in water, steam, sewer, and sprinkler system OR a combination of 10 years of managing and coordinating facilities operations; and/or study in mechanical engineering or construction engineering, to equal a total of 14 years of education and/or experience
  • Master Plumbers license a plus
  • High voltage electrical experience a plus
  • NYS driver’s license required
