Areas of Responsibility

The Junior Project Manager is responsible for managing various maintenance and construction projects in the Yard, including, but not limited to, repairs to building roofs, facades, plumbing and steam heat systems as well as campus sidewalks, roadways and common areas. Other duties include assisting the Senior Vice President of Operations & Infrastructure and Project Managers of Facilities Management with various infrastructure and utility expansion projects from the Yard’s capital budget.

  • Plan, coordinate, procure and implement maintenance and construction projects for various repairs and upgrades to existing buildings and common areas at the Brooklyn Navy Yard
  • Oversee multiple maintenance and construction projects concurrently, ensuring that they remain on schedule and within budget
  • Maintain accurate and complete department files, both electronically and hard copy
  • Interface and negotiate with architects, engineers, construction managers, general contractors, sub-contractors and tenants
  • Assist BNYDC senior management during the planning and implementation of new projects
  • Prepare Request for Proposals and/or Request for Bids, assist senior management in the evaluation process, prepare necessary contract documents, maintain project files, and propose and implement strategies for achieving more comprehensive and efficient procedures

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills as applied to maintain a portfolio of buildings with widely varying construction types
  • Ability to draft memos, manage spreadsheets, and create documents using Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Microsoft Project and PowerPoint
  • Strong sense of initiative with respect to resolving tenant issues and generally fulfilling job duties
  • Knowledge of NYC Construction Codes and permitting process a plus
  • Ability to think creatively and contribute to the project’s success
  • Commitment to teamwork and an integrated approach to project delivery
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels – externally with tenants, consultants, and contractors, and internally with the Operations, Legal, Security, and Development Departments
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Construction Science, Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Construction Management and/or Architecture from an accredited four-year institution; and 1-2 years of experience managing and coordinating construction projects

Or

  • A combination of 1-3 years managing and coordinating construction projects; and study in Engineering, Engineering Construction Science, Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Construction Management and/or Architecture, to equal a total of 5 years of education and experience
