Job Title: Staff Accountant
Employment Status: Full-Time
Salary: $80,000
A Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation business is looking for a smart, passionate team member to join our team as a Staff Accountant. In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining financial records, including monthly closing, preparing reports and financial audits to ensure the overall accuracy in all accounting functions. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities
• You’ll take the lead on the month-end close process, which includes creating and reviewing reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.
• It’ll be your job to ensure the accuracy of our accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions.
• You’ll also help maintain our general ledgers as needed by the organization.
• Additionally, you’ll assist in preparing our monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Analyzing financial performance and cash flow will be part of your role, and you’ll generate reports for management.
• You’ll have the opportunity to identify areas for process improvement and help develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
• You will help to coordinate the annual audit, where you’ll provide the necessary documentation and explanations.
• You’ll oversee the accounts payable and receivable processes to ensure that payments and collections happen accurately and on time.
• Assist with tax filing and compliance reporting
• Calculating employee wages, deductions, and taxes
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on financial matters
• You’ll work directly with the VP of Accounting on various financial projects, which will be a great chance to collaborate and learn.
• And of course, you’ll handle other accounting duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• You have solid technical accounting skills and know your way around financial data.
• You’re great at communicating both in writing and verbally, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and concisely.
• You’re a team player who can juggle multiple tasks and deadlines while staying accurate and detail oriented.
• Your analytical and problem-solving abilities really stand out.
• You’re comfortable using various accounting software and programs.
• Whether working independently or with colleagues at different levels, you’re adaptable and collaborative.
• Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (bonus points if you’re a CPA!).
• You bring at least 3-4 years of hands-on accounting experience, and if you’ve worked in public accounting, that’s a definite plus.
• You’re familiar with financial software and accounting software (e,g QuickBooks, SAP)
